Strategy and Tactics - Reactions
- Use your reactions wisely. The gut reaction many times is to simply return fire. However, movement can often be the better option. If you have 3 enemies in firing position, move when the first shoots and try to deny fire from the other 2 units without them wasting an action to move as well
- Be gutsy; don't always react to the first unit to shoot at you. Sometimes it's advantageous to wait and shoot back at the second unit.
- Force your enemy into making mistakes on reactions. Shoot them with your smallest or least important units first. Many times your opponent will waste their reaction on your weaker force and be helpless before your more deadly units.
- If you shoot a unit and they opt not to react consider not attacking any further. If they go so far as to foolishly say they're saving the reaction for unit XYZ, attack with every unit but XYZ and then simply declare your turn over or move with unit XYZ rather than attacking and initiating their declared reaction. Sometimes it's better to take a few free shots than risk return fire.
- Don't forget the 10" radius reaction. Don't trigger it unless you are planning to engage in Close Combat or are out of LOS. However, setup the enemy to trigger it as often as possible. Move within as close to 10" of the enemy as possible to lock them down without triggering your reaction.
- Mount your APCs with your reaction to take units out of LOS and keep them in armor where they will avoid damage (unless the APC will be easily killed).
